Year 4 – Foundations Course

The Year 4 course is designed to build strong foundations in the core skills required for 11+ success, with a focus on developing confidence, understanding and good learning habits from an early stage.

The programme focuses primarily on Maths and English, ensuring children develop accuracy, fluency and a secure grasp of key concepts. Verbal Reasoning is introduced in a clear and structured way, helping pupils begin to recognise patterns and build essential problem-solving skills. Non-Verbal Reasoning is introduced in the final term, allowing children to become familiar with this area without overwhelming them too early.

Weekly homework, structured classroom teaching and regular reinforcement form the foundation of the course, supporting steady progress and long-term retention.

Lessons are designed to build confidence, independence and a positive approach to learning, while gently introducing children to the style of 11+ questions and expectations.

This course provides a strong starting point for children beginning their 11+ journey, preparing them for the more focused and exam-driven work in Year 5.
